FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — A former Disneyland worker who admitted to setting off two dry ice bombs at Disneyland was sentenced Monday to 36 hours in jail, three years of informal probation and 100 hours of community service.

Christian Isaiah Barnes, 23, of Long Beach, was also ordered to stay away from Disneyland as part of his sentence, Orange County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Farrah Emami said.

Barnes pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of possession of a destructive device in connection with the explosion of two dry ice bombs that exploded in the park’s Toontown area.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Barnes was working at Disneyland on May 28 at a vending cart outside of Toontown. When a co-worker arrived to relieve Barnes from his shift about 4 p.m., he opened the cart, setting off the first water bottle containing dry ice, Emami said.

Barnes took the second water bottle from the cart, Emami said, and on his way to the employee break room, he left a second dry ice bomb in a trash can. The bottle was removed from the can several minutes later by a custodian, who put the trash bag on the ground, then left to empty another can. The bottle exploded while inside the trash bag on the ground, Emami said.

No one was injured in either explosion, but park officials shut down Toontown for about three hours. The rest of the park remained open.
